Government Battery Incentive 2025


Starting July 1, 2025, Queensland residents can benefit from the Australian Government's Cheaper Home Batteries Program, a $2.3 billion initiative designed to make home battery systems more affordable.

This program offers an upfront discount of approximately 30% on the purchase and installation of eligible battery storage systems, translating to savings of up to $4,000 on a standard 11–13 kWh battery system .

Key Features for Queensland Residents


  • Rebate Amount: The program provides a rebate of up to $372 per usable kilowatt-hour (kWh) of installed battery capacity .
  • Eligibility: Available to households and small businesses installing new battery systems between 5 kWh and 50 kWh. The battery systems must be Virtual Power Plant (VPP) compatible, though participation in a VPP is not mandatory .
  • Installation Requirements: Batteries must be installed by Clean Energy Council (CEC) accredited installers to qualify for the rebate .
  • Application Process: The rebate will be applied at the point of sale through accredited retailers and installers, reducing the upfront cost for consumers.

Additional Support in Queensland

In addition to the federal rebate, Queensland residents may be eligible for the QLD Battery Booster Program, which offers up to $3,000 for households with a total annual income below $180,000, and up to $4,000 for those with lower incomes . This state program can be combined with the federal rebate, further reducing the cost of battery installation.
